In June, filled with thoughts of capturing the moody scenery of Japan’s rainy season,I waited, but rain seemed never to come.
Instead powerful sun rays like those of mid-summer, and clouds casting darkness,
gave us dramas of light and shadow unfolding on lush greenery.
Scenes from those dramas constitute the message from nature I bring you this month.
Because of global climate change,the rainy season whose clouds protect young emerging plants from the harsh sun and whose rain gives the moisture indispensable to their growth is changing.
Bright sunlight and deep shadow—these are signs we do not associate with June.
What does this ask of us? What can we do in order to coexist with nature?
