Once again, the seasons turn. Autumn arrives dressed in red and gold.
At this time of year, visiting Lake Chusen-ji (Nikko) is a custom of mine.
Walking the lakeshore at dawn. After an hour or so, signs of people disappear, and a serene forest carpeted thickly in fallen leaves surrounds one.
Autumn’s fiery reds were wanting in vibrancy, this year,
but its yellows gleamed brilliantly under sunlight.
Nature is never the same twice. The true thrill of Nature-
the newness of every encounter with its beauty and mysterious murmur.
The murmur of the ever-changing “cycles of life,”felt
at a forest lake in its season of autumn beauty-
may it touch your deepest soul.
